The scouts are currently taking part in the district winter camp, they have taken part in many activities including tobogganing and swimming (indoors), while they were doing this, roger enjoyed the downtime!
When I arrived at Boxted Church we met up and discussed what we
were doing and where we were going on our hike. My group was made
up of 4 scouts. Me, George, Brogan and Alex. Our aim was to walk from
Boxted Church to Bures camp site. We took the scenic route through
fields and down quiet country lanes. At this point my shoulders began to
hurt sue to the weight of my bag and my feet also began to ache as we
had walked about 9 kilometres uphill and downhill.
In my bag I took the bare necessities like sleeping bag, roll mat, plate,
bowl, mug, cutlery, 1 pair of each clothing items, at, emergency rations,
easy to cook food, snacks, and pillow and shower equipment. Our group
got lost and so we arrived about 1hour 30minutes late. Once we had
arrived at the camp we set up our tents and put our sleeping bags and
roll mats and other sleeping garments into our tents and then went and
cooked our food on a gas stove. Afterwards we washed up our plate or
bowl and cutlery up. After that we packed them away and waited in the
line to have a shower. Afterwards we all got into our tents and went to
When I woke up the next day we had our breakfast and got changed.
We set off to walk back to Great Horkesley Post Office. This was a much
shorter walk back than on the way as we took a different route. This only
took us 4hours 30 minutes and on the way there it took us 8hours 30
minutes. We once again took the scenic route and this took us uphill and
downhill. We passed horses, sheep and cows through fields. This walk
as easier as it was mostly on flat plains. We went around the back of
Great Horkesley Post Office and cut through a gap in the hedge which
brought us out next to the Post Office. Then the parents collected us. I
enjoyed my expedition weekend.
Cubs are having a great time at mega camp, they have been canoeing, watched fire dancers, been go karting and taking a lot of selfies! Even the UK chief commissioner came in for a chat!
